Universities woo Shawnigan graduates

Students deliberate post-graduation plans
It may seem early in the year, but grade 11 and 12 students are already thinking about their post-secondary education, evidenced by a flurry of information fairs this month.

More than 20 universities have already visited the School from the U.S, Europe and Canada, with more than 100+ visits expected over the school year.

This week, we hosted UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, the University of Washington, Wesleyan University (Connecticut), Hult International Business School (Massachusetts), and High Point University (North Carolina). Spain’s IE International University, King’s College in London, and the University of Glasgow have already made a stop. Brown University, the University of Toronto, and a number of other post-secondary options are also on the touring roster.

Students also attend regional information fairs, including the large, travelling Canadian Universities Event, where 45+ Canadian institutions were represented, and the Vancouver Island College Event.

Meanwhile, our Guidance Office continues to coordinate the delivery of both the grade 10 Career Life Education course and the Career Life Connections course (offered in grades 11 and 12), giving students lots of opportunities to make purposeful career-life decisions (a strong aspect of the B.C. curriculum).

With so many universities vying for our graduates, it could be an intimidating experience. Luckily,
Shawnigan's team of guidance counsellors are experienced at navigating the process from beginning to end, working through application, admission, and scholarship requirements, and helping make sense of the plethora of options!
