Snowy Travels
Rocky Mountain Adventure Trip
Over the recent half term break, 22 Shawnigan students, accompanied by three adults, had the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful regions of Canada. This brave group of students left the mild west coast to explore the cold and snowy Rocky Mountains and surrounding area!
The trip began in Edmonton, where the group spent two fun-filled days at North America’s largest mall, the West Edmonton Mall. Students had a blast at Galaxyland, the mall’s indoor amusement park, and at World Waterpark, the world’s largest indoor waterpark.
Our adventurers then headed west to Nordegg, a small town situated between Jasper and Banff in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This stop in their journey marked the true beginning of their snowy travels; much of their time in Nordegg was spent outdoors, where they all participated in a huge snowball fight, built snowmen, and went sledding.
There was beauty at every turn as the group travelled the world-renowned Icefields Parkway all the way to Banff. Along the way, students had the opportunity to view mountain wildlife, experience breathtaking views, and visit beautiful Lake Louise.
While in the resort town of Banff, the group visited a climbing gym, relaxed in the hot springs, and took the gondola to the top of the mountain where they ate a very scenic meal.
Finally, the group headed to Calgary, where they spent an amusing day visiting the Calgary Zoo. The final night of the trip was spent at an NHL hockey game, where students watched the reigning champions St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames.
What an incredible Canadian experience, and a wonderful way to spend the half term break!
