An exciting week of competition
The Senior Girls Basketball team played an exciting showcase game at home against Brentwood College School last Thursday. The game was very well supported by the Shawnigan community, and the gym was filled with an electric atmosphere all evening. Our girls won the game handily, with a final score of 62-36. A rematch game will be played this Thursday at Brentwood.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Junior Girls basketball team hosted a very strong Brentwood group. This was a very tight, hard-fought game throughout. Strong play in the first two quarters led to a Shawnigan lead at halftime, but in the end, Brentwood came out with a narrow victory.

Shawnigan’s Junior squash players participated in the ISA Squash Tournament over the weekend. Grade 10 student Austin D. had a fantastic weekend – he didn’t lose a game at his level throughout the tournament! His strong play earned him the honours of male athlete of the week at Shawnigan.

The Female Prep ice hockey team played back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday against Delta, one of the best teams in the league. They girls came out with a tough 7-0 loss on Saturday, in a game where the score really didn’t reflect the game. The girls rallied themselves well and played a much tighter game on Sunday, with Delta narrowly edging Shawnigan 2-1 in shootout. Goalie Gracie M. stood on her head in the second game, making over 50 saves! She was named Shawnigan’s female athlete of the week thanks to her heroics.

The Junior Varsity ice hockey team competed against Brentwood at Kerry Park Arena over the weekend. They boys played well in a tight game, and came out with a 2-2 tie.

Our Midget Prep and Midget Varsity ice hockey teams were invited to a select tournament hosted by Northwood School in Lake Placid. The boys spent five days in upstate New York, where they played multiple high-level games and represented Shawnigan well.

The Midget Varsity team showcased their skill and determination throughout the tournament. They made it all the way to the finals, where they came away with a silver medal after a 7-3 loss.

The Midget Prep team played in three tough games. They faced one of the top teams, St. Andrew’s College from Ontario, in their first match. Although they came away with a loss, the game was very well played and coaches were so proud of their players. This was followed by a tight shootout loss against Upper Canada College and a tough game against Ulysse Prep Academy.
