Recognizing Excellence

Academic and Fine Arts & Activities Colours
Shortly before Ski Week, we had the chance to celebrate superior effort, achievement and leadership in some of our students by presenting School Colours for both Academics and Fine Arts & Activities. The latter were awarded to students in grades 10 and 12, and will be awarded two more times this school year. This was the first of three presentations for Senior Academic Colours; Junior Academic Colours will be awarded twice in the third term.

Grade 12 student Kylie K. addressed the School before the presentations began. She shared how she has found “magic in the chaos” while learning to balance the demands of a well-rounded Shawnigan education, speaking particularly about her passion for Musical Theatre – she has the lead role in this year’s musical – and the value she places on her academics.

Before announcing the recipients of Academic Colours, Mrs. Milne, Assistant Head – Academics, spoke to the School about academic pressure and academic integrity. “Like everything in life, your academics are providing you with opportunities to make choices every minute of every day,” she said. “The choices you make will not only determine your success, but more importantly, your character. The people achieving Academic Colours here today have proven not only to have strong academics, but to have admirable character through their attitude and their approach to their academics.”

Congratulations to all recipients!
