Midget Prep Ice Hockey
Regular season comes to a close
Shawnigan’s Midget Prep ice hockey team ended the regular season on a high note, with a win on home ice in front of a packed arena. Before the game began, the team’s coaches honoured the 13 graduating athletes during their traditional “Seniors Night” ceremony. Coach Cooper spoke about each grade 12 student before presenting him with a plaque. The speeches can be found below.
After the ceremony, the boys went on to play a fantastic game against visiting Delta Hockey Academy, winning with a final score of 4-1. This win means that they finished the regular season in fourth place overall in the league. “The boys had an amazing season with some great highlights, such as the Lake Placid trip where we played several top prep schools,” shares Mr. Cooper.
A few days later at their annual banquet, internal team awards were presented. Congratulations to the following winners:
Most Valuable Player – Griffen B.
Most Improved Players – Owen E. & Riley B.
Charlie Purdey All Rounder Award – Ethan A.
Captains Award – Griffen B
Congratulations to the entire team for an excellent season! We wish them, along with our three other ice hockey teams, the best of luck in the playoffs, which take place in Penticton during our upcoming Spring Break.
Shawnigan Midget Prep Graduating Players
Michael C. entered SLS in grade 11 and immediately made an impact in the hockey program. His size and strength are obvious, but his improved skating has made him a top end ‘D’ man.
Alex R. entered SLS in grade 11 and immediately became a force on and off the ice. His fun personality and passion for the game have helped Alex to a great Shawnigan career.
Ethan R. entered SLS in grade 10 and has become an impactful player in the league. With great speed and skill, he is always a threat on the ice.
Aaron T. entered SLS in grade 10 and has gradually become one of the great goaltenders of our program. Aaron is one not to back away from the big game and continually makes huge saves for his team.
Noah L. entered SLS in grade 10 and has become a leader within the team and a Prefect in the School. His scoring ability is a gift that has helped the team reach huge successes.
Gareth C. entered SLS in grade 10 and has shown tremendous leadership at Shawnigan. As our Head of School and Assistant Captain, he brings a maturity to his game and the team.
Andrew B. entered SLS in grade 9 and, like many of his teammates, embraced the Shawnigan experience. He is a steady ‘D’ man who has great speed and skill and is an Assistant Captain.
Corbin H. entered SLS in grade 9 and from day one showed great character and leadership in all areas of Shawnigan. His work ethic and leadership have earned him respect amongst his peers.
Mat S. entered SLS in grade 9 and from the start was a man of few words, but his ‘lead by example’ attitude has proven crucial in the growth of his game and love from his teammates.
Ethan A. entered SLS in grade 9 and he has fully embraced the Shawnigan experience. A Prefect and Assistant Captain, he is a multi-talented student with a great work ethic.
Riley B. entered SLS in grade 9 and since that day, he has shown true passion for the game of hockey. His dedication and work ethic have made him one of the most improved players in our program.
Griffen B. entered SLS in grade 9 and has become one of the hardest working players ever to come through Shawnigan. He leads by example through his work ethic on and off the ice, which has helped him develop into a skillful and talented ‘D’ man.
Owen E. entered SLS in grade 8 as a small, shy kid with a big heart. He has dedicated himself to all areas of Shawnigan and followed his dream of hockey. He is now 6’2 and plays a well-rounded game on the back end. His maturity and quiet leadership are his strengths and he is one of the most improved players in our program.
