Rugby Tour - Girls

Day 1: Hey guys!

My names MacKinley B., and I’m in grade 10. This is my third year at Shawnigan and my second tour with the team. I’ve been playing rugby since I was 4 years old and began my Shawnigan rugby career in grade 8. Ever since my dad forced a rugby ball in my hands, I’ve instantly fallen in love with the game and a career in rugby has turned into on of my biggest dreams.
During my grade 8 year, I was one of few juniors on the team and while at first it seemed daunting, over time all the older girls really made me feel welcome and safe. It’s crazy to think I’ve been here for 3 years already, and soon enough I’ll be a grade 12 that juniors look up to. Coming from the perspective of someone that has travelled to England, Wales, and Las Vegas with the Shawnigan girls rugby team, I can truly tell you that they were all impactful experiences that created beautiful memories and I can’t wait to create more over these up coming weeks in New Zealand! Staying with different family’s and experiences New Zealand’s culture is going to be a life changing experience for all of us. Our team environment is truly one of a kind. I’ve never been on a team that truly excepts and motivates one another, and does so with such intensity, passion, and joy for the game. We’ve only been in the airport for a few hours, and I can already feel the excitement and nerves in the air. We’ve all been counting down the days for this moment and it’s hard to believe it’s finally here!

Got to go, we’re boarding!
See you in 2 weeks!

MacKinley B.
