Spreading his wings

Shawnigan grad to coach at university level
Shawnigan grad Guiseppe du Toit ’13 (Duxbury) is adding to his already impressive rugby resume. His playing career on the international stage includes 14 caps with Canada – including, most recently, at the 2019 Rugby World Cup – and he currently plays with the Toronto Arrows of Major League Rugby. This fall, Guiseppe has a new challenge: he will join the coaching staff at Trinity Western University as a backs coach for the men’s and women’s rugby programs. He will remain with the Toronto Arrows and will split his time between Toronto and TWU once their season begins.

“Guiseppe will be a great addition to Trinity Western as he has a wealth of knowledge from his playing experiences both professionally and internationally,” shares Tim Murdy, Shawnigan’s Director of Athletics. “In addition, he has always been a very intelligent and skilled player. This was never more evident than when he hit the winning drop goal versus the world champion Kelston Boys' from Auckland at the Sanix Tournament in Japan. These qualities will serve him well in his new coaching role.”

Guiseppe shares on the TWU website, “It’s a growing Canadian rugby program and I’m thrilled to be a part of that and to help shape it. At the same time, the coaching experience will no doubt shape me as a player, which makes this an invaluable experience.”

We wish you all the best in your new role, Guiseppe!
