Sparking Imagination

360 fair introduces students to exciting possibilities
Monday afternoon saw the continuation of a time-honoured Shawnigan tradition: the start-of-school co-curricular fair. This annual event gives students the opportunity to learn more about our numerous after-school arts and activities programs before they choose what to sign up for. This year, students visited the quad in brother-sister House cohorts, where they had the chance to talk to staff and student leaders representing each of the co-curricular programs.

After the fair, students submitted their top five choices to Morgan McLeod, Director of our newly rebranded 360 program. Mr. McLeod then carefully and thoughtfully assigned students to a co-curricular activity, to which they will commit for the first half of the year. All students will have the opportunity to sign up for a different co-curricular half-way through the year.

Shawnigan’s robust co-curricular program boasts a highly varied selection of activities for students. Options range from digital photography to robotics to search and rescue, with everything in between. This year we are excited to introduce a few new programs, including electronic game and app development, cooking for life, speakers unlimited, and astronomy imaging and outreach.

Students interested in musical theatre were eager to learn what this year’s musical production will be. The musical theatre staff team have chosen Avenue Q: School Edition, with a view to working with a smaller than normal group of actors.

Now that our students’ imaginations have been sparked, we look forward to seeing all of the amazing things that they will do this year!

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
