Mamma Mia!

Shawnigan’s musical theatre program resumes
Rehearsals are officially underway in Shawnigan’s Hugh Wilkinson Theatre for this year’s musical theatre production of Mamma Mia! The show has been cast, lines and choreography are being learned, and an undeniable excitement has filled the theatre after an unprecedented intermission.

“We wanted something fun for us all to do,” shares Morgan McLeod, Director of 360 and Head of Performing Arts. “Mamma Mia! is a big, happy show and the kids are excited about it.”

Mr. McLeod, together with our highly talented musical theatre team comprised of Director of Dance Kelli McLeod, Director of Music Shannon Tyrrell and new Production Assistant Emma Doig ’17 (Strathcona), will be working with a smaller than usual cast and crew of just over 30 students this year. The group may be smaller in number, but the staff team has had no trouble generating enthusiasm – all involved are thrilled to be back in the theatre.

Details around live performances have not yet been put in place as we continue to navigate these uncertain times. In the meantime, the cast and crew are working hard – and enjoying every minute!

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
