The Royal Canadian Legion, in partnership with schools across the country and with The Legion National Foundation, work to promote remembrance and support youth education through its annual poster and literary contests.
This fall, Galen Loiselle’s Law 12 students submitted creative reflection pieces to the Royal Canadian Legion's annual Remembrance Day Contest through the local Legion Branch in Shawnigan Lake. Their entries ranged from poetry and essays to black and white and full colour drawings.
Several students finished in the top three in each of the four main judging categories for senior students:
Senior Colour Drawing 1st - Mackenzie R. 2nd - Sophia A. 3rd - Katy C.
Senior Black & White Drawing 1st - Riory Y. 2nd - Keilen R. 3rd - Sophie L.
Essay 1st - Kevin L. 3rd - Fernando G.
Poem 1st - Abby D. 2nd - Charlie B.
The top three finishers at the local level each received a certificate and a cash prize, along with an escalation of their submission to the regional level contest.
