About

Project Future

I am delighted to report that following our annual Board Retreat – which was held virtually over three days at the end of last week – Shawnigan’s Board of Governors has unanimously voted in full support of Project Future, our strategic plan for the next two to three years. Their support enabled us to formally launch Project Future on February 1, 2021 – the 135th anniversary of the birth of our School Founder, C.W. Lonsdale.
Project Future is a clear articulation of our unique remarkable – of who we are and who we want to be here at Shawnigan. It seeks to future-proof our students, our staff and our School. At the same time, Project Future will serve as a North Star as we decide on initiatives with the following always in focus: what will improve the student experience, what will inspire our students and what will potentially change their lives. As we emerge from the pandemic, we plan to invest in people and place to deliver our strategic plan.

This is an important next step for Shawnigan, as it brings into focus and alignment all of the work that we do to make this place special. It’s not often that statements of purpose, mission and values are updated, and that’s what we’ve done through consultation and collaboration with staff, students, governors, parents, alumni and other supporters. The strategic pillars of Academic Excellence, Co-curricular Distinction, and Student Life Unparalleled, supported by the foundational elements of Community and Financial Resilience and the objectives and actions that guide our efforts in all of these areas, will help us continue to grow and thrive as a School.

The governors articulated clearly during our meetings their appreciation for the exceptional way in which the Shawnigan community has navigated its way through these COVID-19 times. They are unanimously supportive and absolutely thrilled at the direction Shawnigan is heading. We are going to emerge much stronger than before.
