About

Family Day Long Weekend

Dear parents and guardians,

In order to support student health and well-being, we have created a special program for this weekend. During this time, there will be no homework for the students and an emphasis will be placed on rest, relaxation and participation in exciting activities delivered safely.
This weekend marks the first long weekend for the community and the exciting range of activities being hosted by Shawnigan staff has the students buzzing with excitement. Activities such as zorbing, day hiking with a campfire, photography lessons, student-led basketball tournaments and Chinese dumpling cooking are on the menu of options for students to sign up for. The highlights are a Valentine's dinner and a Lunar New Year celebration (lanterns and red lights are up in the Quad) with fireworks. I am so proud of my colleagues who have stepped up to offer their expertise and their time for our students; we are all looking forward to a memorable weekend. House Directors and the Student Life Office have been asked to ensure all day students and their families are up to speed with the offerings open to them this weekend.

It has been an exciting week on many fronts with incredibly positive feedback on the School's new strategic plan, Project Future. We now have this North Star to guide us. We launched the Bruce-Lockhart Fellowship for Academic Excellence in line with our strategic pillar, Inspire Academic Excellence. We also released an Admissions video this week, designed specifically to provide a more in-depth view of Shawnigan for potential families that are unable to visit campus due to COVID-19 restrictions. This video, produced internally, captures authentic student voices as to what it means to be here at Shawnigan. We have been stunned by the response online with so many positive comments and shares. I also really enjoyed watching yesterday's TikTok – a day in the life of Janie Z, a Renfrew Grade 11.

Please watch for re-enrolment contracts for the academic year 2021-22, which will be coming out later this February.

Have an amazing weekend (Family Day weekend for those of you in BC).  Thank you, as ever, for your support.
