A Vision for the Future

Grade 8 Art Exhibition
A tangible excitement was brewing at Duke’s Café on Wednesday afternoon. As part of the Grade 8 Health and Career Education program, our youngest students held a special art exhibition entitled “A Vision in the Darkness: The Inaugural Art Exhibition” at the café in the Friesen Centre. The underlying theme of the project was “Who am I, Who do I Want to be, and What do I Stand For?” With these serious questions in focus, each Grade 8 student explored their values and their hopes for the future and represented them on a vision board.

These vision boards hung in the student centre all week for the whole School to see. No names were attached as the boards were quite personal. Students’ thoughts were conveyed through various means including images, poems, and a list of each student’s top three career choices.

The Grade 8s formally invited their Advisor, House Director or a special teacher to the exhibition, and following a short introductory presentation from a Grade 8 representative, each student spent time sharing their vision boards with the invited guests. Big smiles and lively talk filled the space as students and teachers mingled while enjoying a free beverage from Duke’s.

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
