Inter-House Air Band

It was a night to remember as a beloved Shawnigan tradition returned on Friday after a one-year pandemic pause: Inter-House Air Band! For years, this annual competition has been a marquee event on the inter-House calendar, and students were beyond excited for its return. This is an inter-House event like none other – the result of hours of collaboration and rehearsals.
Mr. McLeod and Shawnigan’s COVID Response Team worked hard to design a safe event, with the largest adaptation seeing the event run in two parts at half capacity. Five Houses at a time were in the new gym to perform and support, while the other Houses watched a livestream of the performances in their common rooms. The two groups switched during an intermission, and the results were revealed on livestream after everyone had returned to their Houses.

Even at half capacity, the air was thick with House spirit. Students (and a few staff members!) have been planning for this event for weeks, and as always, all performers outdid themselves – treating the School community to a truly spectacular evening of entertainment and competition.

Congratulations to participants from all Houses. It was hard to pick winners after such an incredible night of performances, but alas, the judges had to choose. On the boys’ side, Ripley’s House was the runner-up and Lake’s House was the winner; on the girls’ side, Strathcona House was the runner-up and Renfrew House was the winner. Congratulations to Lake’s House, which was declared the overall event winner.

Imaginations have already been sparked for next year’s competition – we can’t wait to see what the students dream up next!
