Graduation 2022

This year’s graduation celebration returned to its traditional location, the much-loved Fairmont Chateau Whistler, where graduates and their families enjoyed what has become a rite of passage for Grade 12s at Shawnigan. With families from around the globe able to attend in person after a two-year pandemic hiatus, the excitement brewing behind the scenes as the Events Team and staff helpers made the final preparations was palpable. The anticipation grew once the festivities kicked off, with parents welcomed to the Woodlands Terrace on Thursday evening for a special parent gathering. The Senior Leadership Team, teachers, House Directors, and advisors were exhilarated to celebrate the students' achievements and share them with the parents who entrusted the School to educate and nurture their children throughout their high school years.
As gowns were donned, hair and makeup styled, tuxedos pressed, and smiles readied, the celebrations continued Friday evening with the big event, the 2022 Grad Gala. After a threat of snow in the mountains leading up to the event, the sun made an appearance, warming up the Whistler valley just in time to capture a fantastic group photo of the dressed-up graduating class before their procession into the ballroom. The event officially started once Head of School, Mr. Lamont addressed the room with a warm and inspiring message that set the tone for a fun evening filled with speeches, musical performances from the students, a beautiful slideshow, dancing, games, and a photo booth!

The Class of 2022 was not the only class to be celebrated on the weekend. The long-awaited celebration for the Class of 2020 – who were unable to gather at the end of their final year after the pandemic hit – took place on Saturday evening. Shawnigan staff were delighted to reconnect with the graduates, closing out the weekend with a bang. The Class of 2020 was finally getting the Shawnigan send-off they so deserved, while also getting the chance to come together for an early reunion just two years after leaving the School.

The weekend was a resounding success and wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the dedication of many members of staff, who worked tirelessly to make sure everything went off without a hitch. Congratulations to all of the graduates of 2022 and 2020 and those who supported them throughout their Shawnigan Journey. The weekend was another shining example of the Shawnigan community coming together to celebrate the achievements of our amazing students.

The photographs and videos from the events will be shared soon! In the meantime, enjoy this video from Parent Night!
