Cassie And Friends Walk

On a mission to support children and their families with Juvenile Arthritis and other rheumatic diseases, the Cassie and Friends Society has the unwavering support of Grade 12 Shawnigan student Danica M., who, as part of her Capstone project, set out to raise awareness and funds for it. Having been diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis at a young age, dealing with the disease has certainly had its ups and downs and has affected many parts of her life, making it a cause close to her heart.
When it came to deciding on a topic for her Capstone project (which also doubled as her SOUL Seeking project this year), it was an easy decision for Danica. With the parameters of choosing something of interest and turning it into a project of discovery, she knew what direction she would go in. She wanted to do something for a cause that has provided so much support to her and her family over the years, and she just needed to figure out how she was going to do it. She spent her year determining how she would go about raising money and awareness for the cause and then set out to make it happen, deciding to hold a Cassie and Friends walk for the School community.

This past week, the walk took place under sunny skies on what turned out to be a beautiful Friday afternoon. Starting at the Rugby Pavilion, the 5km walk had a great turnout, with many students sporting Cassie and Friends T-shirts and everyone wearing items in the organization’s colours of blue and green while enjoying a meaningful and worthy walk around campus. After receiving pledges and donations for the walk, Danica was able to donate nearly $4000 to the Cassie and Friends Society, money that will go towards research, awareness, connection and support for affected kids and families. Congratulations, Danica, on your efforts!
