Building towards playoffs

Shawnigan hockey teams are fine tuning their game as the playoffs draw near.

Varsity Girls:

The Varsity Girls team produced fantastic results at a major midget tournament immediately after Ski Week, winning the Fraser Valley Rush Classic Tournament.

During the round robin, the girls earned a 2-1 win over Calgary and a 5-2 win over host Fraser Valley, as well as fighting to a scoreless draw against Banff.

The record gave the girls first place in their pool and a semifinal matchup against the Okanagan Lakers, which led to a 4-2 victory.

Monday's final proved to be a barnburner, as Shawnigan battled the Vancouver Island Seals to a 0-0 tie after 60 minutes. The game advanced to a shootout, where a goal from Georgia M. and saves from Colby W. were enough to give Shawnigan the gold medal.

The girls visit Delta Feb. 25-26, in a final series between the top two teams before the playoffs begin.

Bantam Prep:

The Bantam team endured a difficult weekend in Delta, losing by 7-2 and 5-0 scorelines.

Griffin B. and Seiya T. scored the lone goals for Shawnigan in the losses.

Rec:

The Shawnigan Rec team earned a historic victory over Brentwood on Thursday.

Trailing 6-2 midway through the game, Shawnigan began an epic comeback that led to a 7-6 triumph.

The Rec team's season culminates with the annual Ross Cup, Feb. 23-25.

Midget Varsity Black and Gold:

Due to the inclement weather in the B.C. interior, the Varsity teams were unfortunately unable to travel to their scheduled tournament in Calgary.
