Fine Arts Day

Celebrating the Fine Arts

From awards to displays to concerts, Wednesday was dedicated to the Fine Arts at Shawnigan.

Beginning with an 8 a.m. chapel presentation, Mr. Morgan McLeod presented term 3 Colours as well as some of the School's Fine Arts awards from the 2016-17 school year.  See a full list of Colours winners below.

After the full and final day of classes, students convened in the quad and hobbies building for the annual Fine Arts Festival, featuring a static display of visual arts as well as musical performances from School favourites as well as nervous newcomers.  The art on display included everything created in the hobbies building this year, ranging from painting and sculpture to photography to textiles to woodworking to short film screenings.  As well, there was the traditional House sidewalk chalk event and a zipline that sent youngsters careening downhill.

The day culminated with a pair of Fine Arts Concerts, where performers from all grades shared some of their talents with full, boisterous audiences.  The concerts featured Grade 8 and 9 students on stage for the first time, as well some of the School's most polished musicians and dancers.  Highlights included a series of short films by Quinn R. and Ms. Shannon Tyrrell leading the Chamber Choir in an interpretation of Pachelbel's Canon – rearranged playfully as the 'Taco Bell Canon.'
