Friendship Cup

The first field hockey tournament of the year
There were some wins and some losses this past weekend at the annual Friendship Cup.

The Junior Girls A Field Hockey team played in the development division of the Friendship Cup, where Head Coach Claire Linn split the squad into two teams of eleven so each athlete would get lots of playing time and exposure to the sport.

“Both teams played very well, winning all three of their respective games for a total of six wins between the two teams! This made for a very hopeful start to our season: all of the athletes and coaches are excited for the season ahead.”

Meanwhile, Senior Girls Head Coach Shiaz Virjee noted that the tournament represented a steep learning curve for his team.

“While we missed players that were sick or injured, the rest of the team worked incredibly hard throughout the tournament. Everyone displayed a fighting spirit and we didn’t give up. We improved with each game but, unfortunately, missed the bronze game with a loss in the sudden-death shootout. We have huge appreciation for all the girls in the team for working so hard, and I am sure we have set the stage for better results as we move forward to the next weekend of games at Crofton House School.”

The field hockey season continues this weekend with the Senior Girls playing in the ISA Tournament in Crofton and the Junior Girls playing in the John Ferreira Memorial Tournament in Duncan.
