Last games before Christmas

Boarding planes, trains, and automobiles, Shawnigan hockey teams competed in three provinces this weekend.

In a final flurry of action before the Christmas break, the School's four competitive teams combined for 15 games in one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Midget Varsity

Extending their lead atop their division, the Midget Varsity team won all five games at a showcase in Delta.

The squad earned victories over Edge (2), Banff (2), and IHA to improve to an impressive 21-1 on the season.

Midget Prep

A week after successfully hosting a CSSHL showcase, the Prep team suffered a small setback in a pair of games against Island rival Pacific Coast Hockey Academy.

On Saturday afternoon, the squad fell 6-5 in a shootout on home ice. Sunday's rematch led to another nailbiter, with PCHA winning 4-3 in regulation time.

Shawnigan sits comfortably in sixth place in the Midget Prep division, needing to finish in the top eight to make the championship draw in playoffs.

Girls Prep

The Shawnigan girls earned mixed results at a showcase in Edmonton.

The team opened with a 4-3 loss to Edge School on Friday morning. The girls rebounded well later that day, scoring a 10-3 win over Banff.

Saturday's game proved the most exciting of the weekend, as Mishayla C. scored early in the game and Kiara S. stopped all 46 shots she faced in a 1-0 win over Northern Alberta X-Treme.

The girls' weekend concluded with a 6-1 loss to Edge.

Bantam Prep

The Bantam team had a tough weekend, travelling to Saskatoon for a CSSHL showcase. The team lost all four games, falling to Yale, Notre Dame, Rink, and PCHA.

The Bantams will return to the ice just after Christmas, as they take part in the annual Pat Quinn Classic in Burnaby, Dec. 26-30.
