SOUL Seeking Showcase

After a full year of SOUL Seeking, two afternoons of science-fair style presentations, and a showcase featuring the 16 finalists, a year of discovery has come to a close. With a panel of judges viewing the final presentations, and staff invited to watch, mocktails were enjoyed by the finalists as the judges announced the winners.
Three projects really stood out this year: Janie Z. ‘22 for her project on the Shawnigan Menstrual Movement, Yangchen T. ‘24 for her mask-making for Nepal, and MacKinley B. ‘22 and Harrison M. ‘24 who produced an album in the recording studio. These projects all received an honorarium valued at $500 each with an honourable mention and $250 going to the runners-up, Victoria Q. ‘22 and Chloe Z. ‘22 for their 3D model of the School, and Ed A. ‘23 for his construction of a stenograph.

The achievements of all Shawnigan students are to be celebrated as this year's projects show great range, creativity, and skill. With access to so many resources and mentors, the projects were varied, with topics of exploration including academics, fitness, entrepreneurship, art, music, and social change. For the Grade 12 students for whom this was also their Capstone project, they can breathe a sigh of relief as they are now one step closer to graduation.

Exploring a personal passion or area of interest in these year-long SOUL Seeking projects has contributed to the personal and academic growth of many students, leaving them feeling inspired and with a newfound understanding of what it means to immerse themselves in a project of discovery, where the skills learned can be applied in so many aspects of life. It is through hands-on learning like this that students at Shawnigan are experiencing first-hand how Shawnigan is succeeding in its mission to Spark Minds, Kindle Hearts, and Forge Futures.
