Hour of Code

Computer Programming
Over 77 million people worldwide participated in the Hour of Code event this year, and it was big part of our final school day before the Christmas holiday here at Shawnigan. Students had access during their math and science classes to try their skill at programming games such as Flappy Birds and Angry Birds, while others tested their logic with LightBots, and others entered into fantasy world programming building characters and traversing foreign lands.  Lead by our AP Computer Science students, the Shawnigan community emerged enlightened by the challenges that exist in the world of computer programming.  As our digital world evolves, it will be this generation of students, digital natives by birth, that will exponentially push computer programming to new frontiers, new applications, and literally new worlds.  Seeding that interest, sparking that curiosity, and having our students play with code allows them to realize the potential that exists in their future.  We encourage all of our community members to take a moment and code; visit www.code.org/learn.  Try a new game, try a new experience, and enjoy your hour of code.
