The SPUD (Sustainable Produce Under Dome) program is an opportunity for students to learn about sustainable agriculture in a year-round productive geodesic dome on campus. The central theme of SPUD is sustainability, promoting awareness and understanding about economic, environmental, and social food sustainability. Students have the opportunity to be involved in the planning of crops from seed to harvest. Using a scientific approach, students will explore soil sciences, pollination, integrated pest control, biodiversity, and landscape design. Furthermore, SPUD members will be challenged to think of solutions to the question at the heart of both a climate-friendly food system and food security: how to feed nine billion people with our planet's limited resources.
