Konnichiwa, Tokyo

Midterm exchange to Japan

A small Shawnigan contingent took on the world's largest city, as the School's latest exchange group visited Tokyo's Azabu High School.
10 students and three staff members took part in the latest exchange journey to the Land of the Rising Sun from Oct. 25 – Nov. 3.
While in Japan, the group wandered through Tokyo's ebullient eateries and shopping areas, as well as venturing by train to some of the country's famed shrines, temples, and gardens, such as the great Buddha of Kamakura.
For four days, Shawnigan students billeted with host families from Azabu High School, enjoying school-based activities during the days and cultural activities in the evenings, with highlights including lessons in judo, calligraphy, and paper-making.
The week of fine dining and cultural immersion came to a close with a farewell party on the final evening at Azabu.
Shawnigan is grateful for the ongoing partnership with Azabu High School, with the next group of Japanese students set to visit Canada in the spring.
