Entrance Awards

Entrance Awards

Shawnigan Lake School offers a limited number of merit-based Entrance Awards to NEW students who will be joining us in the fall of 2026. Both new boarding and day students are eligible to apply.

Show us how you live out curiosity, compassion, community, and courage by applying for our merit-based entrance awards. We can’t wait to see how your unique talents will shape your own Shawnigan Journey.

Once an acceptance to Shawnigan has been received, you are welcome to apply for an Entrance Award. If successful in being awarded an Entrance Award, it will be applied as a credit to your child’s student account. 

2026-27 Entrance Award Applications are now open. The Entrance Award Application Form will close on June 26, 2026. Successful applicants will be notified by July 15, 2026.

Current students are not eligible to apply, and Entrance Awards are only awarded for the first year of entry. 
The following minimum criteria must be met for ALL Entrance Award Categories to be eligible:
  • Minimum overall average of 80% in academic classes
  • Outstanding performance in at least one co-curricular area
  • Aptitude or interest in other co-curricular areas, with expressed interest in developing these during your Shawnigan Journey
  • Clear potential and values consistent with the Shawnigan community
Applicants may meet the criteria for more than one category of Entrance Award, but can only be awarded for one of them.

Award Categories

All-Round Merit Award
The Admissions Department are pleased to offer awards given to students who demonstrate the ability to contribute to the Shawnigan community in exceptional ways, thereby elevating the experience of those around them and enriching the School’s educational experience for all.
 
Pacific West Coast Leadership Award
The Admissions Department are pleased to offer awards to be given to mission-appropriate students who reside on the West Coast of Canada including Alaska, Oregon, Washington and California. Candidates bring with them a natural appreciation and cultural balance from their local community.
 
Residents of Alberta Leadership Award
The Admissions Department are pleased to offer awards to be given to mission-appropriate students who live in the province of Alberta. Students must express an interest in experiencing the West Coast of Canada during their high school years.
 
Global Leadership Award
The Admissions department are pleased to offer awards to mission-appropriate students living abroad outside of Canada, who wish to participate in a Canadian Boarding School experience.
 
Indigenous People of Canada Award
The Admissions Department are pleased to offer awards to be given to mission-appropriate students who identify as a member of the Indigenous People of Canada, that is First Nations, Métis, or Inuit. Award recipients are grounded in the culture and traditions of their ancestors, and embrace the opportunity to act as a role-model. They help educate and strengthen Shawnigan’s relationships with the Indigenous community and empower and support other Indigenous students on campus.
 
Legacy Student Award
The Admissions Department are pleased to offer awards to mission-appropriate Legacy Students who have had a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle who is an alumnus/a of Shawnigan Lake School. An alumnus/a is defined as “Any person with a prior academic relationship with the School of at least one full school year, including graduates, non-graduates and honorary alumni. 

How to apply for a Shawnigan Entrance Award

  • Step 1 – Apply for Admission

    Complete an admissions application and submit all supporting documents.
  • Step 2 – Submit Entrance Award Application

    Complete an online Entrance Award application in conjunction with a successful acceptance to the School.
  • Step 3 – Review Criteria

    Entrance Award applications will be reviewed by the Executive Director of Admissions and the Admissions Team after a student has been accepted to Shawnigan Lake School.
  • Step 4 – Outcome

    Confirmation will be sent directly to the student’s family via email indicating the outcome of their Entrance Award application.

  • How are decisions made?

    Decisions are made based on the students Entrance Award application answers, including: school reports, teacher recommendation forms, and overall impression of the candidate.
  • Can I apply for more than one Entrance Award?

    Applicants may meet the criteria for more than one category of Entrance Award, but can only be awarded for one of them. Please indicate on the application form which Entrance Award category you qualify and would like to be considered for. If you are unsure which award to apply to, please reach out to the Admissions Team directly.
  • Are sport-specific awards available?

    Shawnigan Lake School does not offer any sports awards. The Entrance Awards are merit-based for well-rounded candidates designed to acknowledge outstanding applicants who have the potential to contribute as leaders in the community.
  • What is the potential monetary value of an Entrance Award?

    Entrance Awards are typically valued between $500 - $6000 CAD. If successful in being awarded an Entrance Award, it will be applied as a credit to your child’s student account.
