Sharing treats and conversations
Shawnigan's aspiring entrepreneurs have been making an impression in the local community.
Last Saturday, five students took the school's Stag food truck to the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre, serving affordably priced snacks as families gathered for the ceremonial Christmas light up. Several weeks of preparation went into the event, as the group (Finn R., Kate S., Cadence J., Vivek R., Ryan S.) made specially crafted Beaver Tails as well as other Stag favourites.
"The responses from the community were amazing," says entrepreneurship teacher Gary Dukelow, who was on hand when the proceeds were forwarded to the Mill Bay Food Bank.
A group of entrepreneurship students also visited George Bonner Elementary last week, to teach a Grade 6 class how to make sushi.
A catalyst for great conversations and experiences, Mr. Dukelow says he's hoping that more of these visits will occur in the near future.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play.
