Shawnigan alumni toured a re-invented campus and enjoyed a buffet of sports, culture, and fine arts during this weekend's annual Founder's Day celebrations.
As Shawnigan moves into its 100th birthday year, members of the class of 1965 were inducted into the 'Gold Club' at a luncheon on Saturday morning.
Visiting alumni also joined the student body for a special chapel service, which featured a performance of Over the Rainbow by the cast of the upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
Guests also heard an uplifting speech from Ash Varma ’75 and enjoyed a remarkable performance of Croatian Rhapsody by grade 8 student Alan L.
At the Read Crewhouse, guests joined in the christening of a new boat, the Alan Roaf.
On the sporting front, grade 8 and grade 9 rugby teams split victories in a pair of matchups against Shawnigan's great rivals from St. George's School. On the Canada Field, the feature matchup pitted a select team from North Star Academy and Capilano RFC against the 'TRS XV,' in a tribute to Senior Master (and former Head of Rugby) Rhodri Samuel.
Dance, drama and music captivated the audience at the annual 'Shawnigan Cabaret' – an event that is quickly becoming a highlight of Founder's Day weekend.
Finally, a busy Saturday concluded with a banquet supper in Marion Hall for graduates, guests, and staff.
Thanks to the performers, athletes, and a legion of student volunteers, the weekend was a resounding success.
