Open Mic Night

Grade 10 public speaking

Speakers were poised and compelling as Shawnigan's Grade 10 class held an Open Mic night on Wednesday.

Hosted by Taylor N. and Maddie N., the event featured original material ranging from poetry to monologues to short stories.

Wednesday's showcase featured 14 of the best performances from the grade, after preliminary rounds in individual English classes.

"English 10 classes have been working hard on developing Spoken Word skills," says English Teacher Tim Coy.  "These students showed incredible bravery by standing in front of their peers and delivering their words with great passion and emotion.  Genuine laughter, sympathetic ears, raucous applause and even some standing ovations were distributed to our courageous presenters.  Overall, it was an entertaining evening and the English 10 teachers thank everyone for their involvement."
