Lake's House Chapel

A service about humility

Lake's House treated the School to a discussion about humility, in a Thursday morning House Chapel presentation.

Opening the service, Head of House Teddy Z. drew on the House motto – Non sibi sed aliis, which translates as 'Not for ourselves, but for others' – to stress humility as a central pillar of life in Lake's.

Teddy used the example of Christine, the housekeeper in Lake's, as a paradigm of humility, describing how she quietely prepares the House each morning, even sharing homemade goodies with the boys, without ever asking for recognition.

"Being humble means to not only hold oneself as equal to others," Teddy said, "but also to not look for rewards as a result of actions."

After an Islamic prayer by Moamen E., Zain K. quoted author C.S. Lewis in saying "True humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less."

The Lake's House band provided an upbeat interlude with a raucous rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son.
