Last week, twenty-three Shawnigan Grade 12 students attended the annual District/Authority Scholarship Adjudication Night at Brentwood College School. The purpose of the scholarship is to acknowledge superior achievement in specific specialty areas (Fine Arts, Physical Activity and Sports, International Languages etc.).
Applicants must be BC residents who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and attend an independent school. As part of the process, each student must complete a one page personal letter of application, attain a letter of recommendation from a teacher in their specialty area, and present the expertise in form of a formal, twenty minute adjudication with an expert in the field. Students are asked questions such as “What has been your main source of influence (parent, coach, personal)?” and “Where do you see yourself taking your skill in the future and how will you apply it?”
Successful applicants will receive a $1250 voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition. This is only one of many scholarships that the Guidance Office has been supporting our Grade 12s in completing this year.
