Copeman's Chapel

A tribute to Brotherhood

Copeman's House showed how brotherhood can help us survive the tough times during this week's Tuesday morning House Chapel.

Kicking off the service, Head of House Seth P. spoke about the bonds created during his tenure in Copeman's.  "With only six weeks left in school, I'm really starting to cherish the last few weeks I will have in Copeman's House with all my brothers I've grown beside for five years," he said.

Another five-year boy, Monty M. then spoke about some of the more difficult points in his time away from home.  "It seemed like my low spirits would never go away," Monty said, stressing that the boys in the house had always been there for him.

For a well-timed interlude, Copeman's turned to Thomas W., who turned in an upbeat solo performance on his fiddle.

The congregation was now prepared for an emotional speech from Evan F., who candidly outlined his struggles and encouraged students to check in with their friends and not live in fear of judgement or failure.  Earning a standing ovation, Evan advised his peers to "be yourself, and not let negative self-talk, or negative self-talk of others, dictate who you are as a person."

In thanking Copeman's for the service, Headmaster David Robertson said that the messages shared by the boys had come at the perfect time.  He also thanked Evan directly for his address, saying "I can't congratulate you enough for having the courage to do that."
