Shawnigan Fights Cancer

A week of fun fundraisers

Shawnigan will kick off a week of fundraisers on Friday, as the entire community comes together to raise money for the battle against cancer.  While some of the upcoming events are annual traditions at Shawnigan, others are new ideas spearheaded by the students themselves.

It all begins on Friday, when six lucky students will win the chance to push their chosen teacher into the lake.  Friday will also see the first batch of brave students face the razor, as they shave their heads in exchange for donations to the cause.

Throughout the week, other initiatives will include:

The Sit-a-thon – Featuring students suspended above Kaye's Pond for an hour to simulate the experience of enduring chemotherapy

The Erg-a-thon – Grade 12 student Ben H. pledges to row a half marathon

The Run for the Cure – Four houses will venture to Victoria to participate in the local chapter of a nationwide event

The Terry Fox Run – A worldwide tradition inspired by a Canadian legend

Cops For Cancer – Wednesday's visit from this year's Tour de Rock team will feature ceremonies, speeches, and the unveiling of this year's word shirts.
