The Junior Girls A team placed 3rd at the ISA Field Hockey Tournament at Shawnigan this weekend, defeating York House in the bronze medal game. Crofton House School advanced to the final and ultimately won the gold medal thanks to a better goal differential, though the Shawnigan squad was also undefeated throughout the tournament.
Coach Claire Linn praised the whole team for their efforts: “They’re a hardworking group whose efforts really paid off.”
While the Junior Girls B team didn’t take home a medal, Ms. Linn noted that they progressed significantly during the tournament and showed clear development in terms of technique and tactics.
Going forward, the Senior Girls Field Hockey team is aiming toward Island Championships where they hope to quality for Provincials, while the Junior Girls A team will be attending an invitational tournament at UBC later this week.
“What’s really exciting,” says Ms. Linn, “is that Shawnigan is competing against mainland school teams with girls who play club hockey ten months of the year. For a relatively inexperienced team to place third against such competitors is a really big achievement.”
