The U18 Prep boys had an excellent showing in pool play of their Div. 1 tournament, winning two and losing one, although that wasn’t enough to advance to the playoffs. They opened with a 3-2 loss, then bounced back with a 4-1 win over Pilot Mound and a 3-2 shootout win over RINK Kelowna – the only loss for Kelowna, who went on to win their second straight championship. Sully B. buried the shootout winner. Shawnigan’s top scorers were Nigel A. (two goals and three assists for five points), McAllister M. (2-1-3) and Keegan S. (0-3-3). Stefan K. (one win, 1.00 GAA and 9.64 SPCT) and Liam R. (1-1, 2.40 GAA, .942 SPCT) gave Shawnigan a strong tandem in net.
The U15 Prep boys’ team played to three hard-fought losses in their Div. 2 tournament. Luke B. and Nate B., Qais R., Landon R., and Cole V. were Shawnigan’s top scorers.
From the puck drop in September to now, the U15 Prep team has shown steady improvement and growth. Across a demanding schedule that has taken them to Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, the group has taken on the challenges of league play, showcases, and tournaments, continuing to develop both individually and as a team. Throughout the season, the players have focused on building good habits, staying accountable, and competing the right way in a high-performance environment. After months of league play, the foundation is in place and now the focus shifts to the off-season, where they will continue to work and prepare for what comes next.

Squash
Shawnigan hosted a Squash BC Silver Tournament on March 6, with over 80 players from across BC attending, including 20 from Shawnigan. Sam L. was the overall winner, while Spencer W. and Taiki A. also won their divisions.
Huge congratulations to Joelle K., who has been named to Team Canada for the 2026 World Squash Junior Championships in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario this coming July. This is especially impressive considering that it is a U19 event and Joelle is just 15. Joelle won the U17 title at the Canadian Junior Open in December, and had a very strong showing in the U17 bracket at the US Junior Open.
Joelle is also one of four players from Shawnigan heading to the Canadian Junior Championships in Vancouver later this month. She will be joined by Sam L., Kaleb A. and Chloe W.
Basketball
Senior boys’ basketball head coach Mr. Andrew Shepherd had the honour of coaching the North Island Second Team All-Stars to a thrilling 74-27 win over the South Island at the Vancouver Island High Classic on April 4. Cyrus L. had been picked to represent Shawnigan in the game as well, but was away for Spring Break and was unable to attend.
The Shawnigan boys’ spring club team started play in the Victoria Run & Gun League this week. The team combines members of the senior team with Grade 9 and 10s who are moving up, and gives the seniors a chance to mentor the younger players, while the Grade 11s take on leadership roles.
Adventure sports
The adventure sports fall kayak trip had to be rescheduled to last weekend because of poor conditions last November. The group launched from Cedar near Nanaimo and paddled across to Pirates Cove Marine Provincial Park on De Courcy Island. They spent the day exploring and geocaching, then returned the following day.
