Mark Isfeld Tournament
This past weekend the girls traveled to Comox to take part in the Mark Isfeld "ICE" Tournament. The team played all weekend without starter Kelsey M. as she was struggling with illness. Additionally, the team took three grade 9 juniors and our latest New Zealand recruit, Harmony K., to fill the roster.

Friday vs Ballenas - Ballenas had an honourable mention on the latest Provincial rankings, so I knew it could be a tough game for us, particularly not having Kelsey. However, the team came out and played great defence. When we were up 20-11 after the 1st quarter I told the team this was their best quarter of bball this year. After we were up 38-30 at half I told the team it was our best half of bball this year. And so it went for the rest of the game. Late in the 4th quarter with only a 2 point lead Casey intercepted an in-bounds pass and score; she immediately did it again; then she did it again! Game over from that point, Ballenas was frustrated. Casey finished with 29 points and Chelsea had 21. Best game of the year so far (74-67).

Saturday morning vs Carihi - although the defence was solid, we had no scoring touch. Ultimately we made sure all players played to get some crucial game experience, and to rest some starters. lost 52-26.

Saturday afternoon vs Vanier - Vanier beat Lambrick two weekends ago in the final of the Brentwood Tournament, so we figured we would be in for a tough game. Madison Hill was also out for the game with a quad injury. However, our lunch at Whitespot must have re-invigorated the team as they came out ready to play. Although we were behind early, we finish the 1st quarter with a 13-11 lead. We never trailed after that and won 49-37, placing 3rd (out of 8). This was quite an accomplishment given the inexperienced players we had on the court at times. Gaby Morton played well and finished with 9 points, Chelsea had 10, and Casey was Casey and scored 19 points. The two wins at this tournament were huge. Also, The play of Casey this year has simply been awesome; she has been a tremendous leader on and off the court, and has demonstrated a 'never give up' attitude that I know our juniors and others have learned from.

Next up - a must win game vs Brentwood on Tuesday at 6:15pm
