2015 Physics Tour

Another exciting adventure!
From Day 4 of the Physics Tour blog: The excitement that we were expecting perfectly matched the name of the site we visited: Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Since the tour has a connection with this highly-praised scientific facility, we were able to get into places the normal tour cannot reach. Our first stop was the "clean room," where spacecraft were crafted in a dirt-, germ-, and bacteria-free area; the purpose of this room is to keep the intricate mechanical and computing systems at their highest calibration and thus avoid making a "life-discovering" mistake. It was quite a fascinating stop, and we soon made it to the mission control room, aka the Center of the Universe. We were greeted by the crew that controls the launches, trajectories (and in some cases, the landings) of spacecraft such as the Voyagers, Galileo, Cassini, MSL Curiosity -- the latter now roaming the surface of Mars! -- and many others.
