We are all Canucks!

Welcoming BC's Team.
The future of the Vancouver Canucks was on display this week at the Shawnigan Lake School Arena. For six days, the NHL organization's top young talent was put through their paces by management and coaching staff at their annual Prospects Camp, the first time the event has been staged on Vancouver Island.

After a weekend of team building and fitness testing, the team took to the ice for three days of practices that were free of charge and open to the public. To call each session well-attended would be a woeful understatement, as hockey fans of all ages packed into the arena for a glimpse at the Canucks of tomorrow and the opportunity to rub shoulders with Canuck legends including Director of Player Development, Stan Smyl and, of course, President of Hockey Operations, Trevor Linden. Both the athletes and coaches posed for photos and signed autographs, and the interchanges between our guests and the public made for a wonderful atmosphere for all in attendance.

The highlight of the week came on Tuesday evening, with a 3-on-3 tournament in the arena that was "standing room only," followed by a West Coast Barbecue Dinner in Marion Hall in which players, coaches and management sat with members of the community in an event that raised money for charities including the Canucks for Kids Fund, the Canucks Autism Network and the School itself. Guests were treated to addresses by Headmaster, David Robertson and by Trevor Linden, who thanked the School and the community for being a part of "Canucks Nation," noting that, while the Canucks play their games in Vancouver, their support comes from all corners of British Columbia (and beyond).

This week would not have been possible without the generous support of so many members of our community. The driving force, however, was Shawnigan parent, Mr. Andrew Purdey, whose vision and determination made the entire event possible. We look forward to welcoming the Canucks organization back in 2016!
