Girls prepare to defend BC title

Field Hockey team hits the turf

For the first time in six years, the Shawnigan Senior Field Hockey squad was faced with wet weather for its pre-season camp. However, this did not phase the 26 athletes who showed up fit and feisty, ready to tackle the demanding weekend in preparation for their short and intense season.

Thankfully, the weather cleared up on the second day just in time for the team to cast off on the waters of Cowichan Bay for a team-bonding experience in a traditional native long boat. The squad maxed out the canoe's capacity but did an excellent job of working together to navigate the waters and execute various paddle maneuvers across the bay.

On the field, the girls pushed their physical limits with a combination of fitness testing, skill sets, and full-field games.

They are looking forward to putting their skills to the test at the opening tournament of the year, the Friendship Cup, hosted at Shawnigan on September 18th and 19th.
