Grade 8 Expedition

Our newest students in the great outdoors

The Great 8 class kicked off the 2015-2016 school year with a two-day camping adventure in Horne Lake. The area is renowned for some of the best caving on Vancouver Island, and students were given the opportunity to explore three caves normally closed to the public. Our guides were superbly knowledgeable, and the experience will not soon be forgotten.

On the second day, students canoed on the beautiful lake and learned to rappel down two cliff faces. Everyone was gently pushed outside of their comfort zones, which resulted in a tightly-bonded group of new friends.

Mr. McDaniel's culinary skills made everyone feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. Campfire songs and ghost stories were a highlight, and the Prefects and grade 12 leaders did a stellar job of keeping everyone in high spirits, in spite of the rainy weather. The Grade 8 students proved themselves to be a wonderful addition to the Shawnigan community.

Special thanks to the following students and staff: Cassandra V, Maya J, Tiaan F, Maddy M, Freya J, Hannah R, Andrey P, J-T P, Anna K,  Reid B, Gaby M, Ms Laura Robson, Mr. Kelsey McDaniel, Ross Clayton and Angharad Lloyd (our fabulous interns) and Mrs. Jennifer Hutchins.
