Saturday saw the culmination of the grade 8 rugby season with an early departure for Vancouver and a fixture against St George's. The matchup featured the return of a few injured players, a few positional changes and a complete change in tactics, which was more akin to Welsh rugby in the 1980's than the Shawnigan brand we have become accustomed to over the past 3 months!
However, the changes were highly effective, and the "pick and go" game certainly worked well for us. A few unfortunate errors and some opportunistic scores from our opponents resulted in a 27-19 loss, a much closer game than the score suggests. Perhaps another 10 minutes on the clock could have provided us with a few more tries! We have thoroughly enjoyed working with these young men – the future of Shawnigan rugby is very bright!
