The Shawnigan Girls XV has secured a place among British Columbia's rugby powers.
A year after winning the Provincial 'AA' crown, the girls moved up to the 'AAA' ranks for the 2017 season.
Despite having a group that focuses primarily on 15-a-side play, the girls opened the season with a Vancouver Island Sevens Championship title.
Continuing to post strong results, the girls earned the Island AAA Championship and a berth at Provincials.
The Provincial tournament got off to an ideal start, with eight different players scoring tries in a convincing victory over Semiahmoo.
The team then faced host Yale in the semifinals, ultimately losing in what co-captain Tayla B. called a "close and emotional loss."
Showing their character, the girls rebounded with a 36-7 win over hometown rival Cowichan in Saturday's third-place game, to earn a bronze medal and a positive end to the season.
