Cake-throwing proceeds to go to Mexico and Puerto Rico
Grade 11 student Carolina M. was the brains behind a recent successful “cake in the face” fundraising initiative. Eager participants were able to purchase raffle tickets and could choose to either go on a date with their selected fellow student or throw a cake in his or her face. Suffice it to say, everyone chose the cake-throwing option, with good grace, humour and enthusiasm being shown on all sides.
“I was able to raise $1,650 all from selling tickets in the houses and from students, staff and family donations,” says Carolina. “Half of the proceeds will go to the Mexican Red Cross, who will use the money to buy basic necessities for those affected by the earthquake. The other half will go towards aid for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.”
