Girls travel to New York, boys play on home ice

Shawnigan's girls prep hockey team has earned some on-ice success to go along with some frequent flier miles.

The team arrived back from New York State late Sunday night, where the girls earned a .500 record against strong teams from Eastern Canada and the U.S. including Ontario Hockey Academy and Rothesay Netherwood School . After travelling to Ottawa, the girls ventured by bus to Canton and Potsdam, NY, finishing in a tie for 4th at the ten-team tournament.

The girls were coming off a trip to Winnipeg the previous weekend, and currently sit in 8th place in their first season in the CSSHL's Female Prep division.

Meanwhile, the School's boys prep team has rattled off six straight wins – five of them on home ice.  The team has allowed an average of just 2.2 goals against over that span and has climbed to 6th place in the CSSHL's most competitive Midget Prep division.

Shawnigan's Midget Varsity squad is also in top form, currently holding first place in the Varsity division.  The group will look to build on an impressive 16-1 record with five games in Delta, Dec. 14-17.

Finally, the Shawnigan Bantam Prep team is recovering from a setback on the weekend. A Saturday evening contest vs. PCHA was halted after a suspected injury to a Shawnigan skater. The Bantams will make a trip to Saskatoon, Dec. 14-17.
