Solving and sprinting

The Amazing Math Race

Months of work came down to a final sprint, as the Amazing Math Race returned to Shawnigan.

Originally conceived by Jason Lam for his Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-calculus 10 class in 2015, Mr. Lam resurrected the race last week for another eager Grade 10 group.

Divided into teams of two, the class sped around campus on Friday afternoon, at each checkpoint solving linear systems that would reveal co-ordinates for the next stop.

Each team member had to solve each problem individually, however, and Mr. Lam enlisted a small group of Grade 12 students to help officiate.

Showing great mental and physical speed, team blue (Louisa K. and Rhys D.) finished first.

The trailer below was created by Byron C. – one of ~12 FIlmArts students who covered the event as part of a cross-curricular learning opportunity.
