Provincial acclaim

Murdy and Joubert honoured

Two Shawnigan coaches are earning Provincial recognition for their tireless contributions to developing young people in and through sport.

BC Rugby has announced that Mr. Tim Murdy will be one of six individuals inducted into the BC Rugby Hall of Fame in 2019.

A long-time coach at Shawnigan, Murdy led Shawnigan's 1st XV to a string of three straight top-tier Provincial titles – and eight in nine years – as well as leading sides to victories in international play.

"I am very humbled and honoured by this recognition," Coach Murdy says. "I have been very lucky to work with many great people in the sport of rugby, and to be honest, that is what means the most to me."

Meanwhile, Kristjan Joubert has been named Rowing BC's High-performance Coach of the Year. Coach Joubert spent last year working with Claremont Secondary School's rowing program and was recognized by Rowing BC for his work with the junior single sculler from Claremont who also represented Canada in the single sculls at Junior Worlds in the Czech Republic last summer.

Coach Joubert was recognized at the Rowing BC Conference and AGM this weekend in Vancouver.

New this year to Shawnigan's rowing program, Mr. Joubert also supports the Fitness and Conditioning classes offered by the school.
