Grade 12 students were challenged and provoked by a trip to the theatre on Monday.
The entire class attended a production of Lion in the Streets at UVic's Phoenix Theatre. The play, by Canada's Judith Thompson, contains aspects of realism and fantasy as it travels through a succession of gritty, loosely-connected vignettes. The work also features adult content which forced audience members to think about their own preconceptions and morality.
The eight-member cast also featured Shawnigan graduate Logan Mitev ’11 (Duxbury) who was outstanding in a challenging and emotional role.
Some Shawnigan students referred to the play as "really good," while others thought it was "dark" and "weird." Regardless of their reaction, the 120 students were engaged throughout the performance and given plenty to talk about on the bus ride home.
