Canada may soon have an NDP minority government, if students at Shawnigan Lake School are any indication.
The student body participated in a mock election on Tuesday, beginning with speeches from party representatives during the morning Chapel service.
Hosted by 'Speaker of the House' Nathan T, the School heard compelling arguments for support. The Conservative leader pledged to lower taxes and create jobs, while the Liberal representative vowed to empower young people. The Bloc Quebecois continue to push for language rights and separation from Canada. The Green Party's focus was on the environment and electoral reform, and the NDP's rhyming presentation touching on equality and health care.
339 students cast ballots overall, with 117 seats in the 'Shawnigan House of Commons' up for grabs.
Results:
NDP: 111 votes (33%). 37 seats
Conservative: 71 votes (21%). 30 seats
Liberal: 68 votes (20%). 25 seats
Greens: 55 votes (16%). 19 seats
Bloc: 28 votes (8%). 6 seats
