Grade 10 Model UN

Creating resolutions on climate change

Congratulations to all the Grade 10 delegates who participated in a full-day simulation of the UN Conference on Climate Change, Sustainable Energy and Nuclear Proliferation.  This was the culmination of several weeks of research in their social studies 10 classes.

After listening to a keynote address by John Sloan '69, a former Canadian ambassador to Russia, students spent the day in their committee sessions debating and attempting to build consensus with other delegates on how to best address these contemporary, yet complex problems.

William K. served as this year's Secretary-General and offered wise words in his speech to the delegates in his opening speech.  Each committee was led by senior students (including Christina S, Gaby M, Mary N, Zain K, Cassia N, Eamonn R, Leigh C, Nic H, William K, Kassie V, Armand N, Christian P, Zimmi N, Nathan T, Isaac A, Cindy C,) that have had previous experience in Model UN and debating.  These students also helped the delegates in the writing of their position papers in the lead-up to the conference.  Thank you to Tiaan F. who ran the crisis simulation.
