Asia squash tour

Hitting the courts and beaches

From squash courts to skyscrapers to beaches, a handful of Shawnigan athletes travelled across the world during the Spring Break Asia Squash Tour.

Accompanied by Coaches Mike and Christine Johnson, 14 squash players ventured to Shanghai, China, Hong Kong and Penang, Malaysia.

For some, it was a return home and a welcome chance to see parents and siblings.  For others, it was the first trip overseas and an amazing opportunity to see the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

The team played competitive fixtures against clubs in Asia and, of course, toured historic cities and cultural attractions.

For Coach Mike Johnson, the trip was an opportunity to "showcase the standard and sportsmanship of the squash program in different countries," and also for the students to see a country that they may not have an opportunity to see otherwise.

"The squash tour was a crazy good time," said Grade 12 student Nico V.  "The team and I got to play some of the best squash players Asia had to offer.  Malaysia was the best part; always hot, sun beaming down while at the beach, cheap food and a beautiful hotel."
