Girls win big
The Shawnigan Girls Rugby Team won the Island 7s Championships on Friday April 7 at Brentwood College School. This victory qualifies them for the BC 7s Championships at UBC in Vancouver, April 21-22. Although the weather was cold and wet, the girls played like it was hot and dry. They were able to move the ball fast, support each other well, and pressure the opposition defensively. Stand outs were veterans Hazel B., Clarisse O., Sam J. and team captain, Tayla B. There was also inspiring play from young players Sammy L., Chloe S., and Loiuse W. -- things look good for the future.  The first two games against Dover Bay and Edward Milne got the ball rolling with a 29-5 in both. The third game in pool play was the toughest of the day where the advantage bounced back and forth in favor of both sides ending in a tight 12-10 victory for Shawnigan qualifying them for the championship game. The team faced Oak Bay High School and finished the day on a high with winning 24-10.
